PRESS RELEASE: 8×8, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based unified communications and contact center solutions announced it has now been listed in the US Department of Commerce Safe Harbor Registry as having services that are in compliance with the US-EU/EEA and US-Swiss Safe Harbor Framework developed in coordination with the European Commission.
Regarded as more rigorous than those found in many other areas of the world, the European Union’s Data Privacy protection laws specify that companies operating in the European Union and European Economic Area are not permitted to send personal data to countries outside the European Economic Area unless there is a guarantee that it will receive adequate levels of protection and comply with the seven cardinal rules set by Safe Harbor. The U.S.-EU/EEA and US-Swiss Safe Harbor Frameworks requires U.S. organizations to comply with these requirements regarding the collection, use and retention of personal information from European Union member countries. To become Safe Harbor compliant, 8×8 verified its adherence to the seven cardinal privacy principles required to meet the EU and Swiss privacy standards, including Notice, Choice, Onward Transfer, Security, Data Integrity, Access and Enforcement, and established an independent recourse mechanism for dispute resolution with TRUSTe.
