8×8, a leading cloud provider of voice, video, chat and contact centre solutions for over one million users worldwide announced the appointment of Michael Armer as Vice President and Chief Information Security Officer and the completion of its third successful FISMA/NIST compliance audit by a federally certified auditor.

Armer brings over 20 years of cybersecurity and information technology leadership experience to 8×8 in the areas of data privacy, intellectual property protection, risk management and corporate cyber governance. He was most recently VP and CISO at Barrick Gold Corporation and prior to that served as the head of information security for Lam Research Corporation.

In his global role, Armer is responsible for 8×8’s corporate-wide information security management activities, including compliance, strategic planning, governance, and controls. This includes identifying, evaluating, and reporting on 8×8’s overall security performance and posture in connection with regulatory requirements, industry best practices and threat landscape.

He joins a team of certified security professionals with ten or more years of dedicated security and compliance experience.

Armer holds an MBA from the University of Southern California. He is also a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and a member of the CISO Executive Roundtable, Infragard and the American Bar Association.

FISM/NIST Compliance

As part of its commitment to security across its offerings and business practices, 8×8 is certified as fully FISMA/NIST 800-53 rev 4 compliant. FISMA, based on NIST 800-53 revision 4, is considered the most thorough, intensive form of compliance worldwide, with more than 2,500 areas of security, compliance and data privacy.
